The word “yoga” is derived from Sanskrit root “yuj” meaning “to join” or “to unite” It also means, “that which brings you to reality”. Yoga is a physical, mental, and spiritual practice that was originated around the 11th century in India. The ultimate goal of practicing yoga is to attain peace and tranquility in the mind and spirit, and making this goal achievable by means of yoga asanas/poses and meditation. Yoga has a holistic orientation towards health in that although it is practiced physically, its benefits extend to the mental and spiritual being.
